This week, Susie Black’s Saturday Author Spotlight shines on cozy mystery author Kim Hunt Harris.
About the Author: Kim knew she wanted to be a writer before she even knew how to write. When her parents read her bedtime stories, she knew she wanted to be a part of the story world. She started out writing children’s stories, and her stories grew as she did. She discovered a gift for humor and a love for making people laugh with her tales, and the Trailer Park Princess series was born. Kim loves to not only make her readers laugh and entertain them with a good mystery, but also to examine the issues that everyday people face…well, every day. Issues like faith and forgiveness, perseverance, and tolerance. Kim lives with her husband of more than thirty years and two teenage kids in Texas.
Susie has read and enjoyed the wonderfully wacky Trailer Park Princess series. Susie’s all-time favorite will always be the series debut title, The Trailer Park Princess and the Middle Finger of Fate.
Here is a blurb to whet your appetite:
When Salem Grimes stumbles onto a dead body on her way to an AA meeting, she does what any self-respecting Christian would do—freaks out and screeches words that would make Jesus blush. However, learning that her ex-husband, Tony, stands accused of the murder spurs Salem into action. Eager to help, she makes the bold decision to investigate the case as an amateur sleuth. What she lacks in skills, qualifications, or a general clue on how to find, well, clues, she makes up for with the genuine desire to help. With her octogenarian best friend, Viv, and beloved dog, Stump, by her side, can Salem’s faith lead her to answers that will clear Tony’s name? Or will this be one more element of her life she has boggled up?
Here is Susie’s review:
Trailer Park resident and hot mess, Salem Grimes, has quit drinking. She is desperate enough to straighten her life out that she’s even turned to prayer. But the poor gal can’t catch a break. Trouble follows her wherever she goes.
The Trailer Park Princess and the Middle Finger of Fate is a laugh-out-loud hoot! Ethel and Lucy moved to Texas and worked their fannies off to save an innocent man. What could possibly go wrong? Only everything. The plot moves at a fast pace with Salem and Viv, her energetic octogenarian sidekick, getting into one mess after another as the dynamic duo tries to prove that Salem’s possibly-not-quite-ex Tony isn’t a killer. Who else would trust clueless Lucy and Ethel to put a Band-Aid on a boo-boo, much less solve a murder?
Author Kim Hunt Harris has penned a laugh-out-loud, madcap tale chock full of zany characters that readers will fall in love with one moment and want to smack upside their heads the next. Salem and Viv are hysterically funny as the two most inept investigators ever.
Hunt liberally peppers Salem’s and Viv’s antics with snappy dialogue that is spicier than hot salsa. Add the possibility of a revived romance between Salem and Tony to the foibles, and you’ve bought yourself a ticket to take a rollercoaster-worthy wild ride.
Fast-moving and adventurous with kooky characters you can’t help but root for, The Trailer Park Princess and the Middle Finger of Fate is more fun than whacking a piñata.
