This week, Susie Black’s Saturday Author Spotlight shines on romantic suspense author Patricia McAlexander.
About the author in her own words: “In high school and college, I wrote stories for my friends, but I turned to academic writing while I was in graduate school and teaching. Now retired from The University of Georgia, I have renewed my interests in photography, travel, and history, and most of all, in writing fiction. I’ve written contemporary romantic suspense novels--Stranger in the Storm, Shadows of Doubt, The Student in Classroom 6, and The Last Golden Isle.”
Susie Black has read and reviewed several of Patricia’s releases, including The Last Golden Isle. Here is a blurb to whet your appetite:
Ever since a traumatic experience as a college freshman four years earlier, Clare Matthews has had an aversion to men. But when she goes to spend the summer on one of Georgia’s Golden Isles as a companion for her cousin Sally, she finds herself drawn to Jon, a handsome young security guard who works on the family estate. When the feeling seems mutual, she hopes she has at last been healed. Then signs of his possible involvement in a dangerous criminal activity crop up, and Clare must make a decision that will affect the rest of her life.
Here is Susie’s review:
A traumatic collegiate experience left Clare Matthews with an aversion to men and the label “Ice Queen.” When she agrees to spend the summer on one of Georgia’s Golden Isles as a companion for her emotionally troubled cousin Sally, Clare’s attraction to Jon, a handsome employee of her uncle, leads to an unexpected chance to heal.
Author Patricia McAlexander has written a cleverly plotted tale driven by love, loss, betrayal, trust, family ties, and the inner strength one must summon to face adversity created by human fallibility and fate. The story moves at a comfortable pace with flawed, but believable characters who drive the plot. Readers find themselves rooting for the protagonists from the beginning to the end of the tale. The characters evoke strong emotions in readers right from page one. McAlexander creates enough conflict with an exciting backstory that collides with the romance to keep readers turning the pages to see how it all turns out. Georgia resident McAlexander’s attention to detail regarding local social mores, traditions, and scenery gives this book a strong sense of authenticity.
Part romance, part redemption with a second chance at life and love, The Last Golden Isle will capture the imagination of readers who enjoy a coming-of-age love story and believe that things are not always what they appear to be. This terrific book has more than earned the five-star rating this reader has given it.
