This week, Susie Black’s Saturday Author Spotlight shines on prolific, multi-genre author Jan Sikes.
About the author, in her own words: I’ve been an avid reader my entire life. Nothing I love more than losing myself in a good story. Oddly enough, I had no initial ambition to be a writer. But I ended up in midlife with a story that begged to be told. Not just any story, but a true story that could rival any fiction. Through imaginary characters, the tale took shape as an intricately woven series spanning four books. Not content with just the books, I also released music CDs featuring original compositions reflecting the time periods of each story segment. To complete the journey, I published a book of poetry and art. I thought I was finished. But no! The story ideas keep flowing, and I have no intention of turning off the creative spark. I love all things metaphysical and often include that aspect in my stories. I am a member of the Author’s Marketing Guild, The Writer’s League of Texas, Story Empire, and the Paranormal Writers’ Guild. I am an avid fan of Texas music and the grandmother of five beautiful souls. I reside in North Texas.
Part romance, part thriller, The Edge of Too Late, The Harbor Pointe Series Book 5, is a riveting page-turner. Here is a blurb to whet your appetite:
What’s the point of having it all when you have no one to share it with? Brandon Miller has his dream job, financial security, and he’s madly in love. Only one thing is missing—a commitment.
Angela Cooper’s ex-husband left her with deep scars, souring her on the concept of marriage. She’s not interested in a do-over. Not with Brandon or anyone. Her heart is locked securely away behind a thick wall. With a ring in his pocket and hope in his heart, Brandon arranges a romantic getaway to the historic Harbor Pointe Inn, where he plans to pop the question. Before they reach the inn, Angela’s got her camera in hand and ghosts on her mind. But they arrive to find a much more tangible horror. Accident or foul play? Someone is up to no good, and Angela is the next target. When suspects can be worldly or otherworldly, danger and secrets lurk everywhere. Poised at the perilous edge of too late, Angela and Brandon face the fight of their lives.
Here is what readers have to say about The Edge of Too Late:
Marina Osipova: “I absolutely loved this story! The wonderful depiction of the scenery, bringing the feeling of being right there, and the beautiful descriptive language glued me to the PC screen. Mystery, the suspense growing steadily throughout, up to the ominous atmosphere, clean romance, and an unexpected ending made an unforgettable impression on this reader. Highly recommended.”
Thomas Wikman: “This story is both romantic and a bit scary, but above all else, suspenseful and full of intriguing plot twists, both dark and happy ones. The character development is excellent, and you care for the characters. The relationship between Brandon and Angela is described beautifully, and the dialogue is believable and interesting. The descriptions of nature, the oceanside, apparitions, the inn, and the lighthouse are vivid and atmospheric. It was a pleasure to read, and it is certainly a page turner. I highly recommend it.”
Irishlass2: “Ms. Sikes took me on a journey with a fast-paced plot and engaging characters. Her exceptional writing placed me smack in the center with these characters, and suddenly, I was whisked away within the pages of the story. I felt the cool sea breezes and smelled the fresh, heady scent of pine trees as I continued with Brandon and Angela’s adventure—a life-altering journey for them both.”
Pete Springer: “Jan Sikes has created a fast-moving plot with plenty of mystery and suspense with a paranormal angle. I read this excellent story in one sitting because of its engaging nature.”
