Feisty amateur detective Holly Schlivnik is up to her old tricks in the second installment of the Holly Swimsuit Mystery series. Once again, a murder has been committed, and one of Holly’s friends is a suspect. Did Holly learn her lesson the first time she tried to solve a murder? Of course not! So, she starts nosing around—and ends up getting herself in deep trouble. Holly is a well-rounded character—and what a character she is! I enjoyed hanging out with her as she buzzed around town in her vintage pink convertible, chilled out on her houseboat, and bantered with the Yentas and “Snip” (the assistant coroner). I had to chuckle over passages such as this one: ***A professional voice answered on the second ring. “Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. Assistant Coroner Doctor Sophie Cutler speaking. You stab ‘em, we slab ‘em.” I cackled. “How did you ever survive without caller ID?”*** The setting is vivid and authentic, thanks to the author’s firsthand knowledge of the fashion industry. A big-mouthed parrot adds to the fun. A delightful surprise near the ending brings the story to a satisfying conclusion—and gives readers a reason to look forward to book #3. All in all, an entertaining read!
