Here’s a blurb to whet your appetite:
In a small town like Pembroke Cove, Maine, everyone has something to hide. But when bookstore owner Lily Michaels takes a tumble and hits her head, and her cat Milo starts talking to her, she discovers she has something to hide, too. She’s a witch, and Milo is her familiar. And she’s not the only one in town. Lily has been hiding something else, too. Even though she’s always kept Gage Erikson in the friend zone, her feelings for the man Milo calls Detective Cutie go a lot deeper than Lily’s willing to admit. Gage has a secret too. He’s always had a crush on Lily. But if he gives in to his feelings, it might mess up their wonderful friendship. Somebody in Pembroke knows a lot about the secrets people are keeping and isn’t above a little blackmail. While Lily struggles with learning how to be a witch, she works with Gage to uncover the truth, and a new kind of magic develops between them. Will they remain just friends, or will they finally admit to the secret love they’ve been hiding?
Here’s what readers have to say about Books and Bribes: A Paranormal Witch Cozy Mystery (A Book Store Cozy Mystery 1)
Sharon Baum: “Books and Bribes is a well-written, fun, and uplifting mystery with a wee bit of romance. I love that the story is set in a small-town bookstore like Pembroke Cove, Maine. I found this sweet mystery captivating, exciting, and a fantastic start to the author’s A Book Store Cozy Mystery Series. I am excited to read the next book in this series.”
JR: “A Fine Whodunit: The author has created an interesting and unique plot to go with an imaginative group of characters, making this hard to put down.”
Todd Coon: “This was my first foray into the Cozy Mystery genre. The book has a surprise ending. An excellent read, suitable for young readers; there is no gratuitous gore, violence, or other adult themes in this book. Ms. Race adheres to the Cozy Mystery standard in writing these books. Highly recommended!!”
Kayceedee: “Witches, familiars, and a great murder plot gave me an enjoyable read. It is much more than a magical story; it’s also about blackmail, murder, and learning to accept who you are. The story is written in two perspectives: Lily’s and Gage’s. He is in love with Lily and vice versa, but neither tells the other. The relationships between Lily and Aunt Mimi and Lily and Nikki are realistic and emotive. As for the killer of Flora Gray - Race’s well-constructed plot gives us clues but keeps us guessing.”
Bren: “Great Start to this New Cozy Mystery Series! Audiobook Review 🎧
“I was so excited to see a new series from Lucinda Race because I loved her other books that I have listened to. This Cozy Mystery was fun, had wonderful characters, and a great mystery behind the Librarian’s murder for you to solve. Lily’s best friend, police detective Gage, is trying to keep her safe, but she is being pushy about helping him on the case. They are best friends, but neither realizes that they both want more than friendship. I loved all the characters in this book and the way the murder was solved. I am looking forward to the next book and the next steps in Lily and Gage’s “friendship”. Meghan Kelly’s narration was fantastic as always and really brought the book to life with all the different voices and emotions of the characters.”
